Susie Gonzalez, MSN, APRN, FNP-BC joined Provida Family Medicine in 2020 but has been working in a hospital since she was eighteen in registration, admitting, and the emergency room for nine years specifically as an ER nurse. She received her Advanced Practice Nurse degree from North Park University. She is a board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner. She has come to Provida to continue to care for the community she grew up and lives in.
In high school, she became interested in healthcare when she took a medical assistant class, and this interest led her to also take a CNA (certified nursing assistant) class. She received her Associate Degree in Nursing from the College of DuPage and her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Illinois at Chicago and became drawn to the FNP profession in primary care while doing her clinicals for her Master’s program.
She is interested in patient empowerment and health literacy. Susie believes that patients should be provided health information in terms that they can understand. She applies evidence-based practice to provide the best patient care for all age groups and their families.
Susie believes the role of the provider is to establish a relationship with patients that inspires confidence and communication. By listening to the patient’s concerns and opinions, she implements a shared decision making process that can help patients by encouraging to learn about their health conditions and to understand the pros and cons of different treatment options. Patients are more likely to follow through with their decision if they have a role in making that decision.
Her special interests in healthcare include diabetes and hypertension, and enjoys working with all her patient groups.
In her spare time, Susie enjoys spending time with her daughter, two dogs, and extended family. She likes to be active and can be found at CrossFit or running. Other hobbies include watching travel, watching movies, reading, and eating good food.
