Luis I. Salazar, M.D.
Luis I. Salazar, M.D. founded Provida Family Medicine in 1992 and has been working in healthcare for over thirty years. He began working in healthcare because he was drawn to the service of others.
Dr. Salazar’s path in practicing medicine and providing patient care has only matured over the years. He believes that primary care is the beginning and ultimate step to supporting the health of the individual in a family, its culture, and larger society. He has come to understand that this approach necessitates a special interest in a person’s mental health and dedicates time required for this essential need.
Dr. Salazar chose to specialize in family medicine because this vast area of primary care is challenging and ever changing, and he believes that providers should be listeners as well as guides for patients to help with the patient’s needs and wishes.
Dr. Salazar received his medical degree from the University of Illinois at Chicago. He completed his residency in Family Practice at St. Joseph Hospital in Chicago, where he obtained training in internal medicine, psychiatry and psychology, pediatrics and community and adolescent medicine, obstetrics, and gynecology.
Dr. Salazar has practiced immediate care medicine, has been on staff at the Lake County Health Department and is a diplomate of the American Board of Family Practice. He is past delegate to the Illinois State Medical Society and the Lake County Medical Society.
Dr. Salazar is on staff at Advocate Condell Medical Center, Northwestern Lake Forest Hospital, and Vista Medical Center. In his free time, Dr. Salazar enjoys life with his family in the community that he serves, long walks, reading a wide array of subjects, good food, music and listening to many different podcasts.
